Building Basement Walls

Hey, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to build some walls in my basement? I want to have a bedroom down there, but I am not sure about everything I need to do, check, and exactly how to do it. I'm thinking of building 2 walls and using the other 2 actual basement walls to complete the room. If anyone can tell me how to go about doing this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

You'll have alot to consider including electrical, insulation, flooring, ceiling, door installation and trim work. Do searches with keywords. Basement walls anther under Basement floors and another under sheetrock. You'll find the information will give you a head start in your planning. Once you have an idea or plan, post back with specific questions in the appropriate forums and whoever is minding the store at the time will be happy to reply........

The very first thing you have to think about when even considering a bedroom in the basement, is an egress window. These are special windows built to very strict codes and required for any new bedroom in any basement in the country. Go to Home Depot, Menards, or Lowes in the window section and look at them, as well as the brochure on how to install them and what is necessary. After that, we can go to the next step.

There are a number of good books on finishing a basement. Check out your library and home improvement center. I recommend devoting about a year to self-education before starting.
