glue nailers to block wall ?

I want to finish my block wall basement with drywall. Can I just use construction adhesive to attach the 2x2 nailers to the block wall ? I'd rather not nail into the block but am concerned the adhesive will be strong enough to support the weight of the drywall. Any advice ?

Adhesive is not enough. You need mechanical fasteners.

basement walls

Just a quick thought. You will probably end up wishing you had not glued 2x2's to the walls and nailed up drywall in very short time. With that type of covering, you cannot install electrical receptacles, will have no insulation and the walls will not be straight. Why not bite the bullet and put up proper 2x4 framing about 1" from the walls, install electricals and insulate. It will cost a little more now but will be of much more use for you now and bring a better resale value to the house.
Have a good day and keep in touch.
