Question Basement Window Wells

After buying my house I have noticed water seeping in from my basement windows. I went outside to check around my windows and found that there were no window wells. They seem simple enough to put in but are there any tricks I need to know? (ie. do I need to dig further down and fill with rock to aid drainage, etc.)

Are implying that earth is covering your windows? drainage from window wells must connect by tube to your foundation drain, or else you have just created a bucket to catch water and funnel it inside. Try plastic domes to cover the window. Is the soil slopped towards the house?

Preventing water from coming in basement windows

Making sure soil along the foundation is below the basement window and sloped away to carry water away from the window and the foundation are important. Also, make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear and carrying water away from the house. Trapping water in a window well with no drainage will send the water down the side of your foundation.
