Inside Concrete Walls
#1

Part of my basement that I want to finish has a concrete formed wall which is an inside wall.
I dont really want to have to stud this wall, as I figure it does not require insulation. I havent really planned on eating up 4" in wall thickness either.
2 questions: 1/ Do I NOT need to insulate this wall ?
2/ Is there a good method of attaching drywall to this wall for finishing ie ramset, Tapcons etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Scott,
No, you don't have to insulate the wall.
Regarding attaching drywall to the wall-
You don't say how flat the wall is, but I suspect that if you attach drywall directly to the wall, you will be unhappy with the results. I would attach firing strips to the wall if it seems flat. If the wall is irregular, frame it with 2X4s. In the big picture 4 inches really isn't that big of a deal.
Using a ramset will destroy the drywall and still not secure it. Tapcons may work, but using 1 Tapcon every 12-16 inches is a bit expensive. The cheapest, easiest solution is a ramset with 1X3s and attaching drywall to the wood.
Good luck,

if you have cold winters, then insulate
If you have cold winters (2-3 months of temps lower than mid-30s), then insulate!!!!
My insulation paid for itself in 2 years. I have the before and after heating bills to prove it.
Ask any energy auditor. The biggest single thing you can do is insulate the basement walls.
