Flooring in basement

What type of flooring works out best on concrete floor in basement. My friend used commercial grade carpet but the installer told him he could not hide the seam because it was commercial grade? Now he has a large plastic divider over the seem that does not look very attractive. Should I use padding?

Also, any one ever installed a triple french door in-place-of existing garage door in basement? Manufacturer?

Thanks,

Mark

not hiding the seam probably has more to do with the pile of the carpet--and the installer. if it is done right, there should be little difference in the result on a cemnt floor vs. any other floor. be aware that some carpet on cement is glued down with an attached (minimal) pad attached, and other is installed using tack strips like other applications. prbably the main difference in an installation over cement is to be sure the floor is waterproofed to the best of your ability prior to installation of the carpet. a concret sealer like Dry-Lok is a good choice among many.

re: installing a triple french door in place of a garage door---once the existing garage door is removed, its a matter of the rough opening remaining to allow standard installation. talk with your door supplier (a local lumber yard or glass company is likely to be more thourough) to get complete installation insructions.

i think Anderson windows and doors are the cadillac---but many good manufacturuers exist.

the installer is nuts....

I have commercial grade berber on an 8 pound pad. You cannot see the seam.

Sounds like the installer was covering up for his shoddy work.
