I want to finish my basement and need a place to start? What is first?
I need to frame walls, drop ceiling and do the floors, lights, wiring and phone lines - no running water though -
where do i begin? I live in CT and the winter and spring came be damp - although the basement is dry - house is 27yrs old - but I have only lived here 1yr.. do I water proof the walls and floor?
How do I know if there is mositure problem? Do Install a vapor barrier? How about insualtion? the basement is rather warm in the winter - my house is a slit level so there are only 3 exterior walls -
If I need to water proof the walls - what should I use??
any help would be great

Finishing a basement
Go to www.doityourself.com/basement for helpful info. A couple coats of masonry sealer on basement walls is recommended by forum members. Masonry sealers will not resolve existing problems with water coming through basement walls, evidence of which would be water entering through walls and/or floor. There have been some very good discussions on this forum re: finishing basements. Scrolling through them would be very enlightening. As you work through your project, keep in touch. There are many good experts who post on this forum. Go to www.resercon.com for helpful info on insulation and other important topics.
