gap around basement windows

For framing, I am planning on creating 2x4 stud walls slightly offset (1/2 to 1 inch) inside the poured concrete walls. My question is what to do around the windows. I think I understand how to frame around the windows, but I don't know how to deal with the gap between the concrete wall and the 2x4 frame wall. Does anyone have ideas on how to fill this gap?

Thanks,
Eric

Build out approx. 2 inches and use a 2x6

I think a great way to do this is to build your studwall out just enough so that a 2x6 would sit flush with the concrete right to the front edge of the wall. With that setting - you can easily frame out the window with 2x6's attached to your stud wall - you may want to leave room for drywall or panelling so plan accordingly.

framing basement windows

Good morning. What I usually do is frame the stud walls flush to the window opening of the concrete wall. After the drywall is installed, use 1X lumber or 1/2" plywood or MDF to form a box that extends from the concrete to the inside surface of the drywall. Then you can apply moulding just like the other windows in the house to finish the window.
Have a good day and let us know how everything works out.

Thank you! These are very good ideas. I think I've got the picture. One question, though - what is MDF?

MDF

MDF is medium density fiberboard. It's very easy to work with and very smooth for painting. It's available at all lumberyards including Home Desparate.
