Using Metal Framing

I live in Colorado and am required to "float" the framing. Can someone explain how to "float" metal studs? Do I still need 2x4's nailed to the concrete floor and then float the metal tracks above?

No, you dont need the wood studs. HD carries the slip trac which is what you need. It's much deeper than the top trac. Your studs hang down into this slip trac but leave about 1 1/2" of space from the bottom for your float. Dont attach your studs to the bottom trac. The studs hang like wind chimes until you get your rock up. You can use 1 or 2 screws to attach your studs to the top trac. I know it souds flimsy, but each stud is only supporting about 20lbs. Hope this helps.
