Basement Ceiling
Hello,
I've framed out my basement with steel studs and floated it as well. Can (or should) I install my rock verticaly? The ceiling height will be 8'. I also want to put in a hard ceiling, should I rock the ceiling before I rock the walls? It will be attached to a suspended grid.
Thanks for any info!

Always drywall the ceiling first.
Drywall on a wall is better installed horizontally for a number of reasons: drywall has a strength orientation in the long direction, horizonal joints are less noticeable, it's easier to make the edge of the drywall land on a stud, etc. But you can install it vertically if you want -- a lot of people do and it's okay.

Handimann, what are you using to suspend your drywall ceiling? This might be what we need for our basement ceiling. We're concerned because the floor joists have some movement to them when there is a lot of running and jumping around upstairs, but we would prefer a drywall ceiling to a grid.

The product is called Grid-X, Not sure of the manufacture but Pioneer building supplies in Denver, CO carries it. I'll be placing an order tomorrow and will get back to you with more information on who makes it. The frame installs just like a drop ceiling, only you screw your drywall into it.

The product is made by USG and called Grid-X. It's hung like a regular drop ceiling with 2x2 grid work. The T's are 1 1/2" that you screw your drywall to. The perimiter trac is 1 1/2" L 25 Ga.
The mains come in 12' sections, cross T's are 4' and 2'.
Hope this helps.
This is a great product if you want to avoid boxing all the duct work and have your ceiling at a consistant height and have a drywall ceiling.
