attic coversion

Hi everyone,

I have a one story ranch style home, & I am looking to covert the attic into a bedroom & bath, by raising the pitch of the roof.. My home is set on a slab, with a 4" footing on top of it. Is this a possible conversion????? If so does anyone have any suggestions to what type of support I should use in the walls on the first level???:

Any contractor that you decide to put the second floor on for you will take the necessary steps to reinforce the first floor if necessary. In most cases it's not difficult to do.

gas smell in basement

There is the smell of gas in my basement. My gas company sez its not there gas. They say its not even natural gas. What else could be causing this gas smell.

i am getting ready to buy a house.the basement wall is the only thing that is kinda worrying me.about half way up the blocks have about a quarter inch gap and are starting to push inwards,(like it might cave in some day).it is only the back wall of the house.how can i fix this cost sufficintly so i can frame the walls and finish the basement?
