fire stops how, in non structural wall

OK code says I must have some firestop installed. I plan on building the walls with 2*4 about 1" from the cinder block. How do I go about doing the firestop?

If your worried about fire in the one inch space behind the wall. Just put a piece of 5/8 drywall on top of your top plate before you put it up, cut it 4-1/2" if yor using 2x4 framing, so it extends back the 1" to the block wall. Then use fire rated caulk to seal it to the block.

You'll probably need vertical firestop every 10 feet too (to slow the horizontal spread of fire behind the wall). J874's technique will work for that too.
