cold basement floor

wanted ideas for dealing with a cold basement floor.

flooring types, including a bathroom floor?

insulating the floor before putting finished flooring down

any info would be helpful

We are looking at plans for a house and need some feedback on building with a basement foundation - is it realistic to expect to keep one of these things dry, well ventilated, etc.?? And are windows (depending on design) a better idea than no windows at all? what would be going down there, for starters, is a pool table, and maybe a music room, and some storage. Any feedback about basements would be really appreciated...cheers, Patricia.

Sump Drainage

We bought a spec home two years ago. We have the standard sump pump in the basement. We have experienced an amazing amount of rain in KS this spring. My sump pump is working over time pumping the water. The drain is on the side of the house and basically drops at the end of the concrete drain guide. I have a marsh on the side of my house. I would like to divert the water underground, but I'm not sure I should go this route. Any suggestions on getting rid of the water?
