Attic Storage

I read a lot of threads on the topic of creating attic storage particularly those attics that use 2x4 trusses and joist. The bottom line seems to be don't do it. But I spoke to a couple of local contractor and they stated that even with the 2x4 trusses attic storage space can be created without any problems. They claim that I have "engineered" trusses (whatever that means). Who's correct. Should I just forget about the attic as a viable storage option and go and build myself a storage shed?
Thanx

Many modern engineered trusses provide a 30Lb/sf storage load on the bottom chord as a default minimum, but that does not mean your trusses do, unless you have the plans and specs for them to confirm this.

Check with your local building inspector about your plans, codes, permits, and inspections.
