cabinets for basement

I’m considering installing built-in cabinets as I finish my basement – for a wall that will be an entertainment center of sorts. However, all I’ve found at stores such as Home Depot and Menards are kitchen cabinets. Some of these might look OK for this use, but I’m thinking there must be alternatives out there. Does anyone know where I can find cabinets that would be more suitable for a built-in entertainment center?

Thanks,
Eric

Wood-Mode Cabinetry makes kitchen cabinets as well as gorgeous wall units, entertainment centers, desks, etc. They're pricey but well worth the cost. We have their cabinets in our kitchen and plan to buy some for the basement as well. My brochure is old, but gives the phone number of 717-374-2711. That's in Kreamer, PA. Let me know if you have trouble contacting them.

Most major lines of kitchen cabinets also build cabinets for entertainment centers and libraries. Talk to the kitchen design people at Home Depot, tell them what you want to do, and they'll recommend a cabinet line and help with the design.

Note: These will not be stock items, probably 1-2 months from order to delivery.

You may also want to look in your local yellow pages under "Furniture, Unfinished" -- most of these places will build custom bookcases for you, with lead times of 1-2 months like mike said.

You'll have to finish them yourself (or pay them exta to finish them).

If you're really ambitious, you can head over to the Woodworking forum and learn how to build them yourself!
