Hole in attic

Another problem. On my garage attached to the house, I managed to slip off the 2x4 and stuck one leg thru the garage ceiling creating about an 18" hole. I am thinking of just squaring the hole and placing a large register or vent cover over the opening. Reason, I noticed that my attic fan is going off earlier at night so I guess it has a good draft in the ceiling. Am I going to interfere with anything by doing this. Thanks in advance.

Good point

Most attics have inadequate intake vents, this "cover" will help out as you already know.

It's no different than leaving a fold down stiarcase open

I am thinking about building a new home. What is the strongest and best way to have the attic built. Stick built or built trusses by a company.??? thanks
