What is best way to have attic built

I am thinking about building a new home.
What is the strongest and best way to have
the attic built. Stick built or built trusses by
a company.???

Roof trusses

Prefabricated trusses tend to save time and money and offer greater accuracy and uniformity in design and conformity to building codes. Custom roof designs may, however, require onsite construction of trusses.

Hole in attic

Another problem. On my garage attached to the house, I managed to slip off the 2x4 and stuck one leg thru the garage ceiling creating about an 18" hole. I am thinking of just squaring the hole and placing a large register or vent cover over the opening. Reason, I noticed that my attic fan is going off earlier at night so I guess it has a good draft in the ceiling. Am I going to interfere with anything by doing this. Thanks in advance.

Basement smell

I just finished my basement and I have a small window in each room as well as a dehumidifier but many times when I go into the rooms I smell a musty odor. I have yet to lay my carpet and padding over my concrete floor. I did the moisture test and it turned up negative. What might be causing such smell ?
