Question Cleaning Shimano Bicycle Parts?

Hi. I am in possession of some bicycle parts my son left here and doesn't want. I have searched the net and they are fairly expensive. I would like to clean them up. How do you clean derailleurs, handle bars and the shift/brake assembly? (I think these are shift brake--in my day 3 speeds was a new invention and the brake and shifter were on different handles) These are all Shimano parts for a road bike. I do have some Oranj Peelz but derailleurs and shifters aren't mentioned in it's cleaning directions. I don't want to ruin these. Thank you. Maureen

Smile Cleaning

As a cyclist I use paint thinner on my parts for the MTB, Road ,touring ,Commuter , Chopper. It works great cuts grease, oil and dirt. Then rinse well with water and let dry and lube when dry so they do not rust.
