window treatments

We're in the process of buying new horizontal blinds for our windows. For the best appearance, should the blinds extend from edge of casing to edge of casing? You see, our windows are double-hung with standard construction depth (I think 4 9/16"). I guess I'm going to need to mount the brackets above the top window casing. I need some help. Thanks.

Blinds

All the houses I have lived in had blinds that extended from interior edges or casings, placing blinds over windows and within window trim. Thus, when blinds are hung, window casing is exposed.
