Unhappy Roller Blind Won't Stay Up

Hello --

I can't get one of my roller blinds to roll up. I've rolled and unrolled it, and wound the spring end. When I hang it in the window, it just feeds the blind all the way out. Any suggestions?

When you wound the spring end, did the ratchetting mechanism work? If not, shoot a spritz of WD-40 into it. They sometimes stick and won't engage.

Yes, the spring end winds if that is what you mean.

When you stop winding it, does it stay wound or spin back open? If it spins back open, the ratchet isn't engaging. It may be stuck or worn out. I use the WD-40 when they stick and they work fine after that.

It stays put unless wound too far. It's a fairly new shade. Nevertheless it does not allow the shade to be rewound.

Might be best to take it back to where you bought it. Those ratchetting mechanisms are pretty cheaply made and yours migh be defective.

If you used the existing brackets, check the bracket at the spring end, the slot is probably worn or spread out. Replace the brackets.

Yes, it turned out to be the brackets after all. I tried another blind and it also would not stay up!
