Paint or Buy New

I have plastic or vinyl raised shutters on the outside of my house. They are a purple color. I want to change the color to black. Should I buy new or try to paint? If i do buy them new, is there a brand that i should buy? I heard some cannot be painted easily. Thanks

Generally they can be painted with no issues, just make sure they are good and clean. My only concern would be making them darker might cause them to get hotter and warp.

Most manufacturers do not recommend painting the solid color vinyl shutters. They make a specific material (more like plastic) that is designed to be painted...but they are normally a grey color. Your's are either solid color all the way through or have already been painted.

Look at the back and scratch it with an awl or screwdriver blade to see if it's painted or solid.

If solid..treat them just like painting vinyl siding...plenty of info on that in Web land. If already painted..as mark said...make sure they are clean and use a quality paint.
