hot water baseboard water hammer

My house is 2 1/2 years old. We have hot water baseboard heat. When the furnace
shuts off there is a water hammer type sound......but not every time. The pipes
that hammer are in the floor of the second story. What are the options to deal with this. Thanks

Most likely its air in the pipes. You will need to bleed the system.

Check the zone valves to be sure they are installed in the correct direction. There will be an arrow on the body. Be sure it points in the direction of water flow. If it does not, you have located your noise.
