I just purchased a home which has steam heat. the furnace is approx 2 years old...Is It possible to convert this over to a hotwater baseboard system.

Anything is possible, however it may not be practical. Depending on the type of steam or vapor system you have, it may cause you to repipe the entire house. All those old pipes have never held any pressure and once you put water pressure in there, you will undoubtedly have leaks. The sludge in the pipes is another factor that takes time to show up as a problem. If the system works, keep it as it is, and if it doesn't work, find a good service company who knows steam systems to asess and repair it for you. You could ask the same question over at www.heatinghelp.com. That is a place that has a large steam following and a good knowledge base on different systems. It would be advantageous for you to identify your system type for any future conversations you have with service people.
