combi boilers and back boilers/hot water tanks

hi,
we have never had Gas central heating before and are having a radiant combi boiler fitted. Can anyone please advise why our coal fire back boiler will need to be drained and why they will disconnect our hot water cylinder in the attic. We would really like to retain the option of heating the water by the fire or even the immersion heater if we wish.We know that the combi heats the hot water on demand but surely there is some valve etc which will let you use either method.
Thanks
Angie

Say What???

Angie,

I don't know what in the hey your talking about. Do you mean a Bradford &
White Combicore water heater that is for domestic hot water and for
space heating too? Help me here, Ang.
Say goodbye, Homer. Goodbye.

P.S. Make and Model always helps here folks.
