circulator pump stays on

I have an ancient basmor boiler with a B&G circulating pump that stays on. It happens with no consistency. If I tap on the side of the control box (white rodgers relay-hot water control type 842A-2) the pump will stop. Do I need to change the controls and if so what should I look for? I have tried changing the thermostat. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the white-rodgers control with the aquastat and the safety control together you had better sit down. You will need a Honeywell L8124 with a remote bulb and a Honeywell L8184 primary control. You will have a little wiring to do but it is the least expensive way to get those controls apart. It is expensive to have them both in one box because if one fails, you are stuck replacing both. If you have a different control, post back with the model number but that was a common control on those Crown boilers.
