Question radiator heat

undefinedundefined

I am wondering if it is okay to turn my furnace off until I need hot water. To turn it on and off a couple times a day, does it do any damage? My husband thinks it may hurt the furnace to do this.
Thanks,,,,robynisabel

Turning off boiler

Boilers, particularly cast iron, prefer to stay hot. You can get, what are refered to in the trade, cold leaks. These are not usually serious & will stop when the boiler is re-heated. Another disadvantage to shutting the boiler down is the passage ways tend to get a lot of rust due to condensation.
