Steam boiler stack temperature

I need to come up with an answer to a question and am not having any luck finding it.

The question is, "what does a sudden increase in stack temperature on an oil fired steam boiler indicate"?

I have a vague idea but don't really work with steam.

New Question

Never been asked that before & don't know the answer but the guys on "The Wall" here would know: http://www.heatinghelp.com.
If they don't, heaven help you. Let me know what you find out.
Does this happen during a run or is it high now as compared to historical data?
