radiator

I just bought my home and one of the radiators have been removed from upstairs. I am new to the radiator arena. Do I need to shut the system down to install the radiator or can i just connect it while the system is running?

If I do need to shut the system down, just how do I go about it? I have like a generator in my basement where the system runs off and I do not see a switch on it anywhere.

The only way you would NOT have to drain some water would be if it is a steam system. I think you should get more familiar with the system before you do anything to it. That way you will know how to restore it to its original condition after you work on it. Kep in mind if it is a hot water system and you want to work on a radiator on the second floor, you do not have to drain it dry. Only enough water needs to be taken out to drop the level below the second floor level.
