Safety issues/Kludging jobs

Just found out the hard way that a previous owner of my house seems to have bypassed the low water cutoff using an alligator clamp wire. The short welded one of the clamps to the housing, and I'm glad that's all it did. Aside from the fact that I'm a little ticked off, I also worry that they might have made other kludgy fixes. Any advice on what to check / have checked out would be appreciated.

Safety issues

Having found a jumped out low water cut-off, if I were you, I would contact a reputable local service company, tell them what I had found, & have them go over the system, top to bottom.

OK thanks - I expected it wouldn't be something I'd be checking out myself

BTW - could a service company have done this, or is this definitely a DIY hack?

Low water cut-off

No reputable service company would do something like that.
