oil burner pauses help

Ok I've a problem,
Slant/flin Liberty model L-30-K with Beckett AFG.
More than 1/2 tank of oil.
Last cleaning or service is over a year ago.
The burner pauses 3 or 4 times during it's cycle.
It does not turn off but stops for a brief moment several times when its running. I can hear it stop followed by the bang of the air vent in the chimeny.
What should I do?
Replace the fuel filter and or nozzle?
thanks

How many oil lines are connected to your fuel pump and where is the fuel tank? It sound slike air in the suction line.

Ken,
It's a two line system with the tank in the ground.

Why was my Thread moved to Boilers-Steam & Hot Water Systems?
The Thread is about my oil heating furnace!

You may have developed a suction leak in the feed line to the burner. If it was mine, I would install a Tigerloop deaerator and cap and abandon the return line. If you decide to do this DO NOT take the bypass plug out of your pump if it is a Suntec or Beckett. It is also easier to use the flexible oil lines between the pump and the Tigerloop. They are expensive but simplify the piping. The air won't cause a problem to the burner with the tigerloop. You may also have a leaky fittin gon the suction side. If you have any compression fittings, start with them.

Your thread was moved because a Slant-Fin L30 is a boiler. Furnaces heat air, boilers heat water.
