Oil Water Heater, problem

Hi all, I hope everyone had a good holiday. I have a Bock oil burner model# m-sr and Bock hot water 32E. The problem is that it won't heat water without having the reset button pushed. It will then fire and heat water until it's done, then if you don't call for hot water for say, an hour or so, when you use hot water, it does not fire automatically. So the question, any idea what's doing this and is this something a do it yourselfer can fix? Thanks for any input.

It is most likely the ignition transformer or burner motor. Those are the two things that act up and make you wonder why it starts when you push the button but not by itself. When was the last time you had the unit tuned-up. If it was more than a couple of years, that would be a good idea. There are a lot of factors in making the unit start up properly and run properly. The Wayne MSR burner is not a favorite of mine and can be temperamental. If you have burner questions (which your problem is related to) you could also drop a line over in the boiler forum.
