Pilot problem

The thermocouple is probably bad. The usually cost less than $10 and are avilable at any home center. Make sure the pilot flame hits at least the top 1/3 of the thermocouple.

Thermocouple

Ask for a thermocouple. They come in various lengths. It would be best to take the old one with you. The length is not critical as long as it is long enough.

Albert, you hi-jacked the thread - but since it's so old, there should be no confusion.

How long does the pilot stay lit before it goes out?

Is the tip of the thermocouple in the pilot flame? The size of the pilot flame can be adjusted - the adjustment screw is usually under a larger screw-head on the gas valve.

If that's OK, disconnect the t-couple from the gas valve. Have an assistant hold down the push button, and measure the DC voltage across the t-couple contacts.
