dryer help

we have a new gibson gas dryer with three auto dry cycles
when on a time dry it works well and times down.but when set to one of the auto cycles the knob stays set to where we set it forever and doesn't time down.any body know about this thanks

There are two types of systems used for "automatic" clothes drying. One uses a moisture detector to stop the timer advance until the exhaust air drops below a "set point" of moisture content. The other system uses an additional thermostat to delay timer operation and that thermostat cannot reach its "set point" as long as the moisture content is too high.

If this is a new dryer it should be covered under warranty.
