Two or One line pump

I have a Suntech 3450 rpm A-7100 on a Beckett Burner. I installed the pump last year as a two-pipe system. Yesterday I found that the 55 year old return line was leaking. I decided that the easiest thing to do was to convert to a one-pipe system. I removed the bypass plug from the pump and disconnected the line. Pump pressure is 105 lbs and the flame seems okay. The only difference I notice is a high pitched whine while the pump is running. Never heard this when a two-pipe. I bled the pump of about 1 qt of oil and don't think any air remains. The whine does disappear when the bleed valve is open.
My questions are: Is this whine normal for this pump? It's not very loud but one can definitely tell there is a whine. I had two other pumps on this 20 year old burner, both Webster, and neither made any noise but they were always two-pipe. Should I install another return line and go back to a two-pipe? This will cure the whine. Is one better than another? I asked a furnace tech once and he told me that one-pipe was better because the pump only pumped the oil needed instead of many gallons to be returned to the tank. I always believed that a two-pipe was better because it wouldn't get airbound. Tank is a 275 in the basement.
Any thoughts? - Thank you

One pipe or two

You have a strange situation. Usually pumps are quieter with one pipe. I do not like a two pipe at all, no way, no how. They keep the tank agitated because of all of the oil being returned to the tank. This causes filters to get a lot dirtier than with a one pipe. If you have air problem. You have a leak. A "fix" is to install a Tiger Loop or other brand of fuel de-aerator. This device gives you the best of both worlds. It gives you the benefit of a two pipe while at the same time does not return fuel to the tank.

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply. I notice the Tiger Loop being sold on several websites. I'll order one and see how it works.

Tiger Loop

I think you will like it. If your fuel filters get dirty with a two pipe, you will notice a dramatic improvement with the Tiger Loop. Once you put it in, let me know what you think.
