hello again, i posted something a while back ago that i was very fortunate to fix the problem with your help. it was regarding two dead zones, they were airlocked. anyway i have another problem now, the pipes are banging pretty loud, its not expansion/compression type of noise, this is pretty loud, as if the pipes were beeing hit with an open hand, not with another metal or hammer but with the hand. what i have is peerless furnace on a closed hotwater baseboard copper-finned radiator system, 6 Radiators total, the furnace uses a 5 pipe manifold to distribute water using a grudnfos circ. pump. expansion tank above furnace. I did hear girgiling or "bubling" in the system right after it woke me up from the noise, air comming in? from where though, there are no visible leaks in the walls. it doesnt happen all the time, my mother did tell me a few weeks ago that there was noise, but i thought she was talking about expansion of the pipes/finns noise, i finally heard it. ive been sitting here for about 20 minutes now, and the furnace has been turning on and off, and i dont hear the banging all the time.
I hope someone can help me, its nearly 2am here in chicago and im worried sick, and with only 1 hour of sleep, i have to wake up in 2 hours, thats if i sleep at all. any suggestion would be extremely appreciated.
Best regards,
"sleepless in chicago"

Sounds like the boiler might be making steam. What is the high limit on the aquastat set at? It is possible that it may be out of calibration. Try turning the aquastat down by 10-20 degree's and see if that makes a difference. You didn't mention if this is an oil or gas fired boiler. Does your hot water come off the boiler, or do you have a seperate water heater? I can get into more detail with this info.

Aquastat Calibration, how
the aquastat is set to abou 190. this is a gas system, and the water does come off the boiler. heres a few pictures, i lowered the thermostat to 66 degrees from 69, that seems to have stopped the banging, i gues because is not calling for heat that often. thanks for the advice.

Well here i am, again looking for some advice, so i was having trouble with the boiler, the pipes are still banging sometimes, not all the time now, but enough to worry me, when they bang i go downstairs and check for the origin of the banging and is comming from the boiler itself, i hear what appears to be bubbling as if the water was boiling. not sure how to check if its making steam, how do i do that? the other problem i noticed is that the furnace does not stay lit for more than 30 seconds, i suspect the aquastat is the culprit, because the boiler shuts off at around 180 degrees, which is the setting of the aquastat, is this normal for the water to heat up so fast, psi reaches about 25psi when operating, please help, my mom is worried sick about the banging pipes. i really cannot afford a tech right now, and i would like to see if i can solve the problem myself. thank you all in advance

It's possible that you have more than one problem...
The banging could be sediment in the boiler. If it is, you would need a pro to get in there and flush it out.
When was the last time this system was serviced ?
Did you ever get those manifold valves operating ? Were you able to purge the air and get all the zones providing heat ?
I don't remember if you fully drained the expansion tank ? It may be waterlogged.

Thank you NJ for your advice to my previous posts, i did manage to opens all but one of the 5 valves on the manifold, that solved the problem and i now get heat to all zones, i followed your advice with the PB(?) and it worked, thanks again.
- I did not fully drain the expansion tank, i will do so tomorrow.
- As for the system beeing serviced well i asked my mom, and she says that the system has never been looked at since qwe bought the house 14 years ago (wow) i just recently moved back in to the house so i had no idea, but again thats a wow! so i think the time has come for someone to comeout and inspect it, although she says that shes never had a single problem until recently.
- sediment, well that makes sence since we now know the system hasnt been looked at, ill get a pro out here as soon as posible.
- how about the furnace not staying lit for more than 30 seconds? any thoughts?
Thanks NJ for all the help, you are an excellent source for help, i cannot thank you enough. i will keep you posted

Wow... 14 years ... that's a long time !
I'm not too hip on gas burners, so really don't wanna hazard a guess as to why it won't stay lit, but since you will have a guy come out, hopefully he can "hook ya up" ...
Let us know how you fare!
