Gas boiler price

I need to replace a gas boiler that sends steam to the radiators that heats a 960 square foot row home. I am looking for a bottom of the line unit installation.

Sorry I can't be more descriptive but I don't know much about them.

Can I get some idea of the cost before some salesman comes knocking?

Its hard to give you any price with the info you have provided. More would be needed such as BTU's needed ect. Here is a list with prices for Burnam steam boilers. Copy and paste into browser.

Thanks for that website....I would think 40,000 would be more than enough and are Alpine top of the line or lower?

Steam boilers are sized by the equivalent direct radiation (EDR) in the house. There's a long thread here on how to figure out the EDR and size a boiler. Doing otherwise can pretty quickly lead to problems (i.e., $$ to get right). Do it right the first time. It's cheaper.

The Burnam boilers sold by Alpine are definetly not a bottom of the line boiler. You might find one cheaper. But remember you get what you pay for.

Heater Won't Start

I have a Slant Fin boiler with a Riello F40 burner that isn't starting. Its about 7 years old. The worst part is I just had it repaired-new jacket/insulation, blast tube, filters, nozzle, cleaning....$800.... It worked for about 2 weeks until my tenant ran out of oil and now it won't start. It turns out that there is no gauge on the tank so I will install a gauge. I bled the syetem and the oil flows w/o air. When I push the reset, the fan goes on 1st, then I hear another sound which I think is oil being sprayed and then it shuts off. I tried to light it using some paper, when I hear the 2nd sound but it doesn't ignite. Is it likely that the problem is a dirty nozzle or perhaps I'm not getting a spark. I'm averse to paying $80/hr for the heating guy at least until next years cleaning. The season is almost over but I would like to get it started. I would like to put a new nozzle in but I just don't see where to get access from. Do I have to swing the chamber door open and go through the blast tube or do I access it from the burner side? David

The hot water baseboard heater in my kitchen is different from all the other ones in the rest of the house. It's about 8 feet long and runs in the base cabinet kick space. The cabinets have been raised, so the kick space is about 7-1/2 inches high. The fins on the heater are 3-1/2 inches square and quite rigid. A previous owner installed a really ugly homemade cover I'd like to replace, but I can't find anything that's deep enough. I looked at Radiant Wraps but they are prohibitively expensive. Nothing else stock I've found is deep enough. Any suggestions for places to look?
