Question Circulation pump makes noise like teakettle

We have a outside natural gas boiler with a circulation pump inside for our heat. Twice this morning and 4 times tonight it made this loud noise like a tea kettle whistling for about 60 sec. and then stopped and started up again in a couple of minutes. My husband turned off the circulation pump. Does this damage the system when it doesn't circulate --until we get a plumber out?

Circulator

If it is a B&G circulator & has oil ports, give the port nearest the pipe a drink of motor oil. A tablespoon or two full is plenty.
