Pilot aluminum tubing

I just replaced the aluminum tubing for the pilot light for my gas burner on my Federal boiler. Why is aluminum tubing used and not copper? Could I have replaced it with copper?

Copper was frowned upon for years to be used in natural gas fuel delivery systems. There was supposed to be this reaction. I think as of the last number or years they have caved-in though. Keep in mind not only is the pilot aluminum, but the main burner line is not copper either. I'm sure that is why.

Why do you even want to switch?

Its not that I wanted to switch - the aluminum tubing was really twisted and developed a small leak at the compression fitting and had to be changed. The reason I asked is because Home Depot does not carry aluminum tubing and I had to go to a specialty boiler parts store. It is just a matter of convenience and I was curious as to why aluminum over copper for gas pilot tubing.

Thanks
