Boiler Ratings
When sizing a boiler, how do you determine which size boiler to purchase? If a house calls for 80,000 btu's, what am I looking for?
Example: Biasi SG2
Is it DOE heating capacity (79,000)? Or is it Net Output
(69,000 MBH)?

Typically it is net output. For permits in this jurisdiction they look at IBR to exceed heatloss and IBR is even lower than net output. Some size for the domestic water load if the heating load is low but hot water demand is high.
That boiler consumes 91 MBH of oil to produce 79 MBH of heat and the 69 MBH figure is if you exclude all heat generated by the boiler and the near boiler piping which you wouldn't want to do.
Sounds nicely sized to me.
