boiler stopped working!

hi. my boiler stopped working last night. it's the teledyne laars, copper fin boiler that was making loud angry noises, if anyone remembers. ive been keeping the house temperature quite cold (maybe 45-50) for the past couple weeks, and raised the temperature to max, to test it and i think that that's when it stopped working. the circulator pump is still running, and the universal control says there is no call for heat, but the boiler temp is at min., and is not trying to turn on. someone is supposed to come and see it, but it might take a while, and i don't really trust these guys. i'm hoping it's my old mercury thermostat. a little while age, before winter and after they installed it, the same thing happened. the guy came and lowered the switch inside the thermostat, and that did the trick. i tried to mess with it but no setting is turning it on. thanks

You can test to see if it is the t-stat easy enough. Just take the two (hopefully) low-voltage wires that connect to your t-stat and touch them together. If the boiler comes on it's your t-stat. If not, it is something at the boiler end.

OK, so the magic touch of a service guy to a wire instantly repaired your boiler ?

Is he going to move in and touch it every time it doesn't fire up ? or did he actually diagnose a problem and repair it properly ?

I guess that means he didn't fix anything then...

I hope you showed him the door and don't pay the bill.

Harry Houdini''s House of Hydronics - we'll make your problems vanish.

Troop, the guy did show up and he did restore his heat...

Yeah, right... for how long ?

At least hull knows which wire to touch... maybe Harry Houdronic taught him his trick ?
