boiler won't ignite
I have a Utica boiler. Hot water. 16 yrs old. Having trouble igniting.
I found if I tapped on the pilot gas ignition control, it would eventually ignite. But it would quit after a few hours. Then I kicked it and it lit.
So I replaced the pilot gas ignition control. Now I can't get it to ignite at all.
Suggestions please. I have been without heat for days. It is 7 degrees here. Thermostat says 50.
Thanks!

Won't ignite
Kick it harder. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I presume this control makes a spark to light the pilot then the pilot lights the main burner.
Can you see or hear it sparking? Does the pilot light at all?
Are you sure it is wired properly?
Make & model of the boiler & control would be helpful.

I don't think the unit I replaced ($100), makes a spark. It seems that it is a sending unit.
My bro said the ignitor inside the boiler, near where the gas burning actually takes place, is probably broke. Looks tricky to remove with the gas line being attatched to it.....but I am sure I can figure it out.
I am not sure what the pilot is up to. lol
Not sure about the wire connections....a friend helped me.
I will check this out and get back to you as well with more info.
It's sooooo cold in here. Wood stove in basement is too small.
