temporary hotwater fix

I have a slant fin boiler for baseboard heat and hot water. My smart III indirect water heater tank thermostat has quit and I've ordered a new one - it won't be in for 3 days.

Would it be possible to temporarily bypass the thermostat to call for hot water - so the family can shower etc.?

First, how did you diagnose the defective thermostat ? In other words, you are _certain_ that the thermostat is bad ?

How is the thermostat wired into the boiler controls ?

If you "by-pass" the thermostat you will constantly be asking the boiler to create domestic hot water,there will be nothing to stop the demand,you will be making 180* or more hot water.....and if you are set up for priority domestic, your boiler will never switch over to heating mode.......by-passing any safety limit is almost never a good idea

Boiler High / Low temp setting issues.

Raypak 0135B boiler [url]http://www.raypak.com/uploads/2100.50Z.pdf[/url] My temp setting has been 170 high and 150 low. It's been pretty cold here in OR, so i decided to change them. The raypak has a high and a low setting dial type thing with temps on them. I eventaully get it to 175 high 160 low. Then no matter where I put the high sensor it wouldn't go above 175. I was kind of irritated so i just wanted to go back to my original settings of 170-150, but now the POS will only go to 165. I cranked the high sensor to the 210 degree mark and it still kicks off at 165. I'm pretty sure the guage is working. Pressure was 20psi throughout all my changes. The burner is turning off and the circulator is still running, so it's not a thermostat issue. Suggestions? Thanks

oil burner puff back

I experienced a small puff back. I was able to clean up all of the soot, but the awful smell throuhout the house is making me crazy. What can I use to deodorize the house and get rid of this smell. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. gr8smile
