Thermostat and zone valve wiring
Ok here's my question. I'm replacing my heating system with a biasi b-10 boiler. I'm using a tekamr 260 and a taco zvc. with caleffi zone valves. Currently I have progammable white rodgers t-stats. These are 3 wire t stats although they can be operated with a two wire system. Is there any advantage to a three wire system? Also the zone valves are 4 wire with and end switch. Also what gauge wire is recommended for wireing zone valves. And does it need to be shielded

I did not want you to think you are being ignored, but I personally have never even heard of that brand of zone valve so I cannot help you. If you can give more info or a picture, or maybe even a link to a web site, I may be able to help.
There are a few more heating guys out here that may jump in and help.

the web site is www.caleffi.com They are a Z1 actuator and a Z2 body. They are the terminal block type with 4 terminals. Here's a better web site http://www.caleffi.com/en_US/Technic...1115/01115.pdf

Some zone valves require three-wire thermostats but these valves appear to be for use with a two-wire thermostat. There is no advantage to using three-wire thermostat wiring.
Number 18 wire is sufficient and it does not need to be shielded. Follow the wiring diagram for the Taco ZVC. You may not need to use the end switches on the valves with the Taco control panel.

ok Great Now how do Iknow if I need to wire the end switch? On my taco diagram it shows both ways. Also on the t-stats should I just disconnect on of the wires or re wire them all?

I'm pretty sure you do need to wire the end switches...
When a t'stat calls the ZVC for a heat call, it will activate the zone valve, which in turn will close the end switch, which will tell the ZVC that the valve is open, and send a demand to fire the boiler. If you don't wire the end switches, the boiler will never fire ! and, you don't want the boiler firing before at least one valve is open...
Which Taco diagram are you looking at ?
On the t'stats, what is the purpose of the extra wire ? If it is to provide a 'common' connection so that the t'stat will run on the 24VAC from the panel, then I see no reason not to use it if it's already wired ... what model t'stat ?

Sorry not to sure about the 3 wire?? but 18 gauge thermostat wire is fine always get more wires than needed incase one breaks somewhere sown the line, like get a 18/5. The end switches on your zone valves should be tied into a relay that will power your system pump. hopefully that helps.

The Taco ZVC zone control panel has all that stuff integrated into one box. There's a relay to run the pump, and a relay to fire the boiler ... or, the pump can stay wired to the boiler...

The t-stats are white rodgers model 1f97-371. The repalced an old round type t-stat a couple of years ago. As for the 3 wire I have no clue. I know that I tried to use a 2 wire t-stat and the boiler wouldn't shut off. If I can use a two wire set up that would seem better

Yes, that t'stat can be used as two wire ... just disconnect the wire you don't need, no need to pull new wire...
Check figure 2 in the installation booklet ...
