Mixing 3 & 4 wire zone valves

I added a 2nd zone to my heating system last year. I made the mistake of buying (2) different types of zone valves based upon price. I have a Honeywell V8043 E 1012 (4) wire zone valve and a TACO 571 (3) wire zone Valve.

When I operate the valves manually the zones provide heat exactly as they should. However, I cannot seem to get the TACO wired into the sytem to allow automatic operation. The honeywell seems to work fine.

Do I need a Zone valve controller like the TACO ZVC403 to integrate the 3 and 4 wire valves? If so I am concerned about the VA rating of the controller. The Honeywell valve says it is 50VA pilot duty at 24V and the TACO is 21.6VA. The TACO ZVC403 is rated at 40VA.

The Honeywell has an old Honeywell Mercury Termostat on it and the TACO is connected to a Programmable termostat.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks,

Thanks for this diagram. It looks like this should work. One question: Does it matter which yellow wire and which red wire connect to the T-stat and TT wires? I don't see anything on the Honeywell schematics identifying which goes where so I assume the answer is NO.

Just checking before I blow someting up.

Thanks,

Yo Dawg... (sorry, my NJ is showing!)

No, either yellow, either red ... of course the 1,2,3 on the Taco valve does matter, but you knew that already !
