zone valves not closing

zone valves not closing
I have in floor radiant heat with 5 zones (plus DHW). I am having a problem with my zone valves sometimes not closing after the call for heat has ended. Not a big deal except when a different zone calls for heat, the pump comes back on, and I am now heating two zones, including one that doesn't need it. It only happens sometimes, and it is happening on more than one valve, so I'm skeptical that multiple valves have worn out, considering they are all less than 3 years old. What else might cause this? Do I just need to replace them?

You might try this:
Set your zone thermostat to call for heat. Then disconnect one of the 24-V wires connected to the valve operator. Excercise the valve by alternately touching the wire to the terminal and removing it.
When it sticks open, gently rap on the valve with a wooden block. Maybe that will free up any debris that is fouling the valve.
