main line vent

As the steam travels across the main line, I can feel it moving. By the time i get to the end of main, the radiators connected to the 1st riser is already hot and the one furthest away is just about to receive steam. Does this sound like maybe the main line vent is not working properly?

I read that if the main line vent is working properly, the steam should travel fairly quickly across to the end and rise up together on all the risers.

Thanks!

I'm 'steam stupid', but I believe you are correct ... it sounds like that main vent is either slow, or perhaps not working ... do you hear it hiss ? then stop when the steam hits it ?

I do not hear any hissing. The vent does get hot after steam travel across it.

Is replacing the main line vent the same as replacing the air vent? Like does it just screw in?

Thanks!

Make sure there is no steam pressure on the system and remove the main line steam vent. Does the steam get there faster? If so replace the vent and maybe do a dual vent.

Do i just unscrew the main line vent off just like the air vent on the radiator? Or do i need a wrench and/or special technique to get it off without doing any other damage to the system?
