Pressure Readings on Utica Boiler
Hi I have a Utica Boiler(furnace) model PEG150CDE.
Recently within the past few days, I realized that the heat does not turn on even though the differential in the thermostat is at 1 degree meaning that if the temp drops 1 below the room temp, the heat should kick in. I dont know too much about this stuff but the house was getting cold. The pressure reading was a little over 5 psi and the cut in reading was set to .5 psi. I though maybe changing this would do something would help, and it did. I changed the cut in setting to 2 psi and immediately the boiler kicked in.
Does anyone know what the actual cut in setting should be and is a reading over 5 psi something I should worry about.
I don't know who to turn to and I don't want the boiler to blow up or anything...please help

Sounds like you have a steam boiler. Usually a cut in of .5 is fine. I suggest you get a local service person, familar with steam systems, to take a look at yours. Most don't mind a bit if you watch & ask questions.
