"Square Head Cocks"

There was a recent post regarding old, hot-water, balancing cocks with square stems.

I have a B&G Handbook, dated 1940. It calls them "square head cocks." Now you know.

By the way, there are old, used B&G books available through Amazon for reasonable prices. The one I'm talking about is titled "B&G Handbook," 1940. Another one is the "B&G Engineering Manual," 1954. If you can afford just one, get the second one.

Priceless.

Thanks Doug

So they were intended for the purpose? I always thought those "square head cocks" were simply gas cocks & used because they were convenient.

A lot of the time they were used with condensate pumps and boiler feed tanks to control flow back into the boiler when the pump runs.
