how long does it take for a boiler to get cold?

For my install this week I plan on heating up the house real hot then turning it off so it's cool enough for him to handle to rip out. Just curious if anyone ever did keep track of how long it takes to get cool enough to handle?

257K with coil if that matters.

It won't be totally cold but you can start working on it after an hour. The first thing would be to drain any water in the system. Once the water is gone, it won't be hot for long.

The easiest, safest and least wasteful is to kill the burner or shut off gas **** allowing water to continue to circulate to radiation until heat in water is gone.

He didn't say that he had a hot water system. There is water in a steam system that has to be drained first as well.

On that note; he also didn't say he had a steam system either.

What I have learned through the years people with hot water will tell you they have a boiler, however people with steam tend to add steam to the I have a steam boiler response.

Just my experience.

He says 257K with coil, I betting on oil water boiler w/domestic coil but, I could have guessed wrong.

That's true too. He didn't specify one way or the other which is why I gave an all inclusive answer. I guess we'll have to wait for the OP to respond.

you win. Beer 4U2 oil hot water baseboards summer/winter hookup with the super non efficient coil

we are 60 degrees outside now but by tomorrow they say up to 3 inches of snow and 28 so i set the stat to heat up to 75 at 230 am then ill get up at 5am and kill it and hopefully the house will stay warm 2 days. He said no hot water until wednesday.

so ill be in shorts all day and hopefully not frozen at night And if the contractor gets stuck at the top of my hill he will just have to stay and finish it right?

My prize won't be ready till about 11? (old boiler)

Leave the heat turned up, shut off oil line valve and burner will die but circ should continue dissipating the heat

he just called and is prepping the new boiler and told me i can turn the heat on until he gets here and he will just drain the water into the yard.

so i guess doesnt matter to have the boiler cold

That was my original answer, that the first thing he was going to do was drain the water.

just to complete this thread's thought, the hot water wasnt an issue at all..but boy do i wish i heated the house hotter...73ish was not enough...got down to 60 next morning then i put the oil radiators out and got it up to 65..they did nicely! bedroom was 70 all night on medium with door closed.

at least i know the heat loss of the house is 13 degrees lol

love the new boiler and if anyone's interested i posted many pics in my other thread. Including the TONS of "vermiculite?" that poured out of the bottom of the old boiler as they moved it away. 4 guys barely got it out the door it was so heavy and dragging it around my entire yard couldnt have been fun..but thats what i paid for!
