REPLACING A HONEWELL AQUASTAT RELAY TYPE L8148e

Could someone tell me when replacing a Honeywell Aquastat (L8148E) do I need to drain the boiler?

If I do need to drain the boiler what important steps do I need to take?

Thanx, John

No need to drain the boiler. The aquastat bulb sits in a well that is inserted into the boiler. Just turn the power off (at the fuse/breaker box!) and R&R it.

There should be a set screw at the bottom of the spud where it goes into the well. Loosen that to release the control from the well. Don't unthread the hex at that point as that will remove the well (and empty the boiler for you).

Replacing honeywell aquastat l8148e

- It seems there is no set screw on my spud

- would be some other means of attachment, maybe inside the control box

- haven't removed the old aqaustat yet

Thanks, John

There are several other means that Honeywell uses. Check for a screw on the bottom of the aquastat where it fits onto the spud. If none, then look inside of the box for two screws, one on each side of where the bulb enters.

If so, loosen them and a clamp should slide upward releasing the aquastat from the spud. The clamp will be on the outside of the box with the screw heads on the inside.

On my horizontal mount 8148, there is a single hex head screw with a straight blade screwdriver slot on top of the a'stat, directly above the spud mount... loosen, but don't remove that screw. When you loosen, the clamp will slide down and release from the well spud.

Replacing aquastat

I have just recieved the L8148E 1265. In reading the directions and looking at the new aquastat it seems that there is a internal clamp on the inside of the control box. It looks like there is a adapter which inserts into the well spud then internal clamp, clamps down on. It didn't come in the box, so I hope I can use the old adapter on the orginal aquastat?

I've doubled checked for a set screw on the well spud with no luck. Would there be any chance I would have to sweat the adapter onto the well spud?

Thanks, John

Aquastat L8148E 1265 connection with Damper don't work

I have just recieved the L8148E 1265. In reading the directions and looking at the new aquastat it seems that there is a internal clamp on the inside of the control box. Does it has anything to do with the connection of the Damper. Not getting power to the Damper. Is there any other connections i need to know to get Damper runing. PS: Is there an adapter needed? My original Aquastst Relay was L8148E 1273. What's the difference?
