UPGRADING TO hONEYWELL L7224U AQUASTAT
Thanks to NJ Trooper for the L6006C aquastat installation guidance. My unit heater is now up and running.
I plan to upgrade the triple aquastat on my Weil-McLain WTGO3 boiler from the original L8124A unit to an electronic L7224U unit. Weil-McLain advises that this will be a direct conversion. However, any advice or recommendations for making the conversion will be appreciated. My system consists of a Beckett AFG oil burner, three hydronic zones with individual zone valves, and a single Taco circulator pump to handle water cycling.

Upgrade?
I don't know if I would call it an 'upgrade'... sure it's fancy, got digital readouts and LEDs... but aside from that, the functionality is the same as what you have now. It's not really gonna save you anything as far as fuel useage...
If the old a'stat wasn't functioning properly, well, that's another story. But if it ain't broke...
There is one area that IS different. The HIGH limit has an adjustable differential which in SOME cases is useful for correcting short cycling problems.

Hi Geomanfrom PA-
(Whoops while I was typing this Trooper commented. But I would sure hate to waste all these words of wisdom below )
I know very little but my L8124A went bad and I was going to replace it with another L8124A. But Trooper suggested that since I needed replacement go with the L7224U which should replace the L8124A without problems. I did and it worked out great!
From what I remember everything was just a one for one switchover. The connections terminals on the L7224U were the same as on the L8124A : L1, L2, C1, C2, B1, B2, ZC, ZR and T, T for the thermostat.
I just moved the wires to the corresponding terminals on the L7224U and made sure that the thermal sensor unit was pushed down snugly in the well and turned her on. The L7224U has a display where you can read high/low settings, read when the circulator is on, burner is on, water temp, etc. Easy to set the limits with push buttons.
I have a New Yorker boiler with a Beckett AFG oil burner. But I only have two zones each with its own circulator. But that shouldn’t matter - should it? If all the connections are the same on the L8124A and the L7224U?
Can’t remember having any problems – AND I’M A KLUTZ!
Good luck!

Hey ZD! No, don't waste your words! Thanks for posting them.
Won't make a bit of difference to the aquastat whether you have zone valves or circulators... it's a one for one, plug and play swapout.
Glad yours is working out for ya!

If your boiler has a domestic hot water coil be sure to use ZR & ZC even if not used before.
See paragraph just above picture of control for a brief description.
